Students of Zlife Education Astronomy Club in the Annual Fest of BBPS, Sec 21 Noida

It was again the time of the year when Bal Bharati Public School, Noida was about to celebrate its achievements both in academics and co-curricular field, THE ANNUAL FEST 2011...

We had 7 days and a total of 20 hours to think, make, establish, learn and implement..... A difficult task but at Zlife Education we believe, not in IMPOSSIBLE but I’M’POSSIBLE.

We went to the school on the first day and was escorted to the general science lab by a faculty member; the ambience of the place was full with excitement of the students, not only astronomy enthusiasts but a whole lot. I saw some known faces from the astronomy club class, my own students were my apprentices and I was relieved as they were geniuses. Devang, Shivang, Shrestha, Vidit, Srinath, Bhavya and Tanushree, real astronomy enthusiasts, I must say. Day 1 marked the day, we decided WHAT TO DO, HOW TO DO, WHEN TO DO..

The title of the exhibition, we all agreed upon :

COME JOIN US TO LOOK INTO THE HOUSE OF GOD.... THE COSMOS...'EARTH AND BEYOND'

ABSENCE OF EVIDENCE IS NOT EVIDENCE OF ABSENCE
OUR THEME WAS 'A TRIBUTE TO FATHER OF GRAVITY, SIR ISAAC NEWTON'

We planned 4 charts (2012 myths and facts, astronomical facts, ISS, Mars landscape) and 4 working models (Balloon Powered Mars Rover, Comet, Rocket & Rocket Launcher & Olypus Mons) and then there was a presentation on Astronomy...

Finally by day 3 we were all set with our goals so we divided the groups for their particular tasks. Tanushree and Bhavya were looking after the volcano while Devang and Srinath were indulged in Rocketry. Shivang on other hand was handling the comet and nevertheless Vidit and Shrestha were playing around with the mars rover. for next 5 days the general science lab was our workstation from 12 o'clock till 2:15pm. we were all set.

On day 4 while the teachers, Mrs Soman and Mrs Khurana were taking care of all the charts and decorations, children went for the kill and engaged themselves with the model making.

Rocketry
Comet

THE ROCKETRY- we had to make a rocket (beverage bottle), a launcher (assembly of PVC pipes and connectors) and a pump of course for pumping the air, our fuel, into the rocket. we build the system and when launched, our rocket was sailing in the sky and we were all happy.. MISSION ROCKETRY WAS A SUCCESS..

THE COMET- we made a comet using some organic material, some ammonia, minerals and heavy elements, water and dry ice. we mixed all in the bowl and stirred it with our wizzard stirrer and TADA.. we made a comet and named it TS21...A nice story behind the name.. maybe some other time. MISSION COMET WAS A GO..

THE MARS ROVER- we had a pair of wheels, a playing card, some straws and a balloon. all we need now was our brain to make a moving vehicle that use air as its fuel and balloon as engine. MISSION ROVER READY TO EXPLORE

Comet
Olympus Mons

OLYMPUS MONS- we decided to give a taste of knowledge to the audience so we decided to compare our Mount Everest (8km in height) with the largest volcano of the solar system, Olympus Mons (32 km in height and 80 km in width). girls made the volcanoes so beautifully that it actually made us feel that this was an exact replica with the same mars rocks. MISSION VOLCANO STOOD TALL..

Overcoming the flaws here and there and some props and money issues, by the 7th day we were all set on the day of the exhibition, with our rockets reaching skies, comets spewing geezers of gas and vapors, mars rover riding on and Olympus Mons gazing the sky..

We received a 3ft*9ft*4ft space and we had to make full use of it. The back was decorated with our theme and charts, while the table in front held a monitor, showing HD pictures of the universe an out models..
Finally the event started and people started pouring in with their eagerness and curiosity.
I was no longer the member of the team, now it was the kids who were in charge, I had faith in them..

They made the comet first and the people were showing interest in the gas spewing beautiful piece of icy water and dust. then they launched the rocket and now the whole crowd was attracted to them as if they were some wizards making people's wishes come true, of course they were... they were making people's subconscious wonder and wander...

As the chief guests arrived, the kids gave them a good taste of astronomy with not only the models but the presentation and many more interesting facts about our universe. Chief Guests were happy and satisfied with those little genius and curious minds and the level of their confidence and communication skills.
that whole evening we launched rockets, made comets and accelerated our mars rover.

I was standing far sensing the joyous aroma of excitement of the presenters and the audience, I thought they did a great job. what a marvelous group of intellectuals and promising future of INDIA.

Well about 8 o'clock at night we were packing up as the show was over. kids made many new friends and admirers with their skills and wonderful astronomy. they all came to me and said SIR IT WAS GREAT.. that was my reward

I bid AU' REVOIR to them and the respected teachers, who were so helpful that I don't even have words to describe their great efforts and was lost in the mist but I could still sense the happiness and excitement, the day spewed into the atmosphere.
